Summer Berry Muesli

Source: https://www.chopchopfamily.org/recipe/summer-berry-muesli/

We love oatmeal when it’s cold out. But in warm weather, this nearly instant bowl of cold oats and fruit feels exactly right. Muesli (pronounced MYOO-zlee) is a traditional Swiss breakfast of milk-soaked oats and fruit, and we think you’ll love it.

kitchen gear

  • Cereal bowl
  • Measuring cup
  • Box grater (adult needed)
  • Spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1⁄2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1⁄4 cup berries
  • 1⁄2 apple

Instructions

  • Put the milk and oats in the bowl and let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Add the berries, apple, and any of the optional toppings, and stir well. Eat right away.

Notes

OR ELSE

Let it sit overnight! Our Kids Advisory Board member Henry McFetridge says, “I make mine the night before and eat it in the morning. It tastes great because the milk soaks into the oats.”

FANCY THAT!

Add any or all of the following toppings to make it:
Nutty: 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds
Seedy: 1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, or flax seeds
Sweet: 1 chopped date
Fruitier: Swap in 1⁄4 cup diced fresh fruit, such as peaches or nectarines, for the berries — or use both!
