Dear Sally: I hate broccoli, okay? I know it’s good for me. I challenge you to make it taste good.

kitchen gear

  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife (adult needed)
  • Vegetable peeler
  • Measuring spoons
  • Mixing spoon
  • Baking sheet
  • Pot holders

Ingredients

  • 1 head broccoli
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • grated parmesan cheese
  • lemon, quartered

Instructions

  • Turn the oven on and set the heat to 500 degrees.
  • Using a sharp knife, separate broccoli into bite-size florets (the curly part) and stems.
  • Using a vegetable peeler, remove the stalks’ outer peels and cut the stalks into 2-3 inch pieces. Put the florets and peeled stems on a baking sheet.
  • Add olive oil and salt and mix well.
  • Once the oven temperature has reached 500 degrees, put the baking sheet in the oven and bake until the broccoli is lightly browned, about 10 minutes.
  • Take the sheet out of the oven. If you like, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese or lemon juice — or both.
