SNAP-Ed in Your Neighborhoods

Our SNAP-Ed teams have been busy this spring, and they have even more exciting work planned for the summer. DTA works with four organizations across Massachusetts that do SNAP-Ed work in communities across the Commonwealth.

The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts hosts field trips at their farm in Hadley, MA

The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts hosts field trips at their farm in Hadley, MA throughout the spring and summer. While visiting, elementary school students learn about colorful produce, take a nature walk through a forest, and plant flowers of their own at the farm. This gives young students the chance to connect with the source of their food—farms! They also get to sample a delicious farm-focused treat, such as fresh veggies dipped in hummus.

Over in Eastern Massachusetts, the YMCA of Greater Boston hosted a dumpling making class with women specifically from the South of China. Their nutrition educator used fresh vegetables, including ginger, cabbage, carrots, and mushrooms, that were familiar to the women in the class. She combined the veggies with ground chicken for a new take on the classic pork dumpling. This delicious recipe is also featured in our SNAP-Ed Recipes.
