YMCA Mobile Market

The YMCA of Greater Boston works with SNAP-Ed in Massachusetts. Their team of nutrition educators and coordinators run a variety of programs, including a Mobile Market. The Mobile Market has made visits to partners across five Boston neighborhoods, distributing over 250,000 food items since its debut in 2023. The market allows visitors to choose fresh produce and shelf-stable items to best meet their dietary needs and preferences.

In addition to delivering nutritious foods across the Greater Boston Area, the YMCA team offers nutrition lessons alongside the Mobile Market. These lessons feature a variety of topics, including fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthy snacking. The lessons also often include cooking demonstrations which empower market shoppers to feel more confident in their own cooking. Participants have the chance to share their favorite meals and snacks, and groups discuss strategies for incorporating more whole foods into a balanced diet.

The YMCA team has received positive feedback directly from clients at the Mobile Markets. One person noted, “It is very nice to see the community come together. I’m able to help myself and my mom shop for food at the Mobile Market and also learn about nutrition for my family. Everyone is very friendly, and it is a comfortable experience.”
