The first Wednesday of May is Massachusetts Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day. On May 7, if you are able, walk, bike, or roll with your kids to school! This can have many benefits for you and your kids—being outside can improve your mental health, the movement can improve your physical health, and moving alongside your kids can improve your connection with your family and your community.
In some communities, walking, biking, and rolling may have many challenges. If this is your case, there is support for your community. The Safe Routes to School team offers ideas to make getting outside easier and more fun. It may involve parking somewhere and then walking, biking, and rolling. If you are feeling extra motivated, you can even work with your city or town administration to improve sidewalks and trails to make walking, biking, and rolling safer for everyone.
