This month marks #NationalNutritionMonth celebrating its 50th year having started in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This year’s campaign encourages everyone to learn more about the food we eat, how it’s grown and the various ways we eat — not only around a dinner table, but also on the go, in schools and restaurants, at games and events.
This year, the theme is, “Beyond the Table”. The food we eat is more than what we put on our plates. It’s about food production and its distribution. All the different places we buy our food like grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and bodegas. It’s about food storage and food safety and the role all of it has in keeping us healthy whether we are making a meal for our family, lunch for ourselves, or a snack on the run so we can navigate our lives, eat well, and decrease food waste.
