Basic Baked Chicken

Cooking chicken like this makes the oven do all the work — which is nice for the chef! If thighs aren’t your favorite, use drumsticks or even breasts, just make sure they have the skin on, since that’s what makes this so delicious.

kitchen gear

  • Measuring spoons
  • Medium-sized bowl
  • Baking pan
  • Aluminum foil
  • Tongs or heatproof spatula
  • Pot holders

Ingredients

  • 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 4 large chicken thighs (with bone and skin)
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (if you like it spicy)

Instructions

  • Turn the oven on and set the heat to 350 degrees.
  • Put the salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano, basil, and chicken thighs in the bowl. Add the hot sauce and massage the chicken to spread the seasoning mix all over it.
  • Put the chicken in the baking pan, skin side up. Cover the pan with cover with foil and, once the oven temperature has reached 350 degrees, put it in the oven.
  • After 30 minutes, carefully uncover the chicken. Turn the heat up to 450 degrees and cook until the chicken is crisp and golden brown, another 30 minutes. Serve right away.
