National Nutrition Month® Week 4: Build the Connection Across All Stages of Life

This is the final week of National Nutrition Month®, and it is all about connecting nutrition across all life stages. SNAP-Ed has resources for you no matter where you are in life, whether that be a young adult, parenting school aged children, an empty nester, or anything beyond. Eating habits evolve over time depending on so many factors, including your age, free time, activity level, and, of course, your preferences. There is no one perfect way to eat, and the SNAP-Ed website can help you find resources that work for where you are in life right now.

Eating patterns vary from person to person with good reason. To have the most sustainable eating pattern, you need to find what works best for you. Here are a few resources that may help you:

  • MyPlate provides a basic outline for how to incorporate all the essential food groups. Note that even though everything is separated on the MyPlate visual, your food does not need to be. Try a stew loaded with chicken, vegetables, barley, and serve it with fruit and cheese on the side.
  • This blog on Cooking for One or Two offers a few ideas that make cooking more practical for smaller households, whether you live along or with a partner.
  • For busy parents, check out these tips to Make Back to School Season Easy. They can be applied at any time of year, not just at the start of the school year.
  • If you do not have access to much cooking equipment, try some Low Equipment Recipes to keep yourself and your loved ones nourished with delicious foods.
Enjoying healthy food and good company.

Finally remember that no matter how you eat, whether you are the primary cook or shopper in your household or not, Food Safety is something for everyone to know about. Clean, separate, cook, and chill your food safely to keep everyone around you healthy.

Happy National Nutrition Month®! MA SNAP-Ed is here to support you and your health and nutrition goals all year long, no matter what life stage you are in.
