Changes to EBT Card Benefits
Starting July 1, several changes begin that may affect SNAP EBT card users. Two statewide programs, HIP and SUN Bucks, can have major impacts on how you and your family purchase food this summer.
Healthy Incentives Program (HIP)
On July 1, the monthly HIP incentive increases to $40. This means SNAP households earn up to $40 each month in HIP incentives when they use their EBT card to purchase fruits and vegetables at local farmers markets. The HIP incentive will be added back onto their EBT card after eligible purchases. Please note that your EBT card must have a balance greater than $0 to earn HIP incentives at the point of purchase. Visit Mass.gov/HIP for more information.
SUN Bucks
Also beginning July 1, SUN Bucks benefits will be available to eligible families. DTA will issue separate cards specifically for SUN Bucks. Each household will receive a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child for the summer period. Benefits must be used within 122 days from the date the money was added to the card. Please note that you cannot earn HIP incentive with SUN Bucks. While you can use your SUN Bucks card to purchase fruits and vegetables at farmers markets, those purchases will not qualify for a HIP incentive.
