National Nutrition Month® Week 2: Connect with a Nutrition Expert

This second week of National Nutrition Month® is all about connecting with the experts. That is because this week includes Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN or RD) Day, which falls on March 12 this year. RDs are food and nutrition experts who work in a variety of roles. Some are in clinics or hospitals, helping patients manage their chronic diseases, such as diabetes and kidney disease. Others teach nutrition to youth or adults, just like in the SNAP-Ed program.

If you ever explore the internet or social media, you know that there is a lot of advice about nutrition and health. Some of it is very convincing, but not all of it is true. Some of it is true, but it may not apply to your life or situation. That is why we have nutrition experts like RDs to help sort through the noise. Here at SNAP-Ed, there are plenty of blog posts, cooking tips, and shopping tips you can rely on. Nutrition experts are behind the scenes working on bringing together this content to benefit you and your lifestyle. Not everyone has the same food preferences or health conditions, so there is no single perfect way to eat. DTA and SNAP-Ed are here to support you move toward a healthier lifestyle, whatever that means to you!

If you know any RDs, give them a special shoutout on March 12. If you are curious about talking to a nutrition expert, MassHealth members may be eligible for visits with RDs, depending on their circumstances. In the meantime, resources on the SNAP-Ed page can help you find new ideas to incorporate healthy habits into your already busy life.
